Open Graph Preview
See roughly how a page could look when its link is shared on social media and in messaging apps, using the page's Open Graph (og:) and X (twitter:) tags. It lists the tags found and the ones missing, checks the share image's size and shape, and gives you a starter set of tags to copy.
Loading Open Graph Preview…
How to use it
- Paste the address of the page you plan to share and press Preview.
- Look at the large and summary card previews. If the title or description came from the page's <title> or meta description instead of og: tags, it's noted under the cards.
- Check the share image facts: dimensions, ratio, file type and size.
- Work through Missing tags and Tips, or copy the starter tags and edit them for your page.
- After updating your page, ask each platform to fetch it again (for example with Facebook's Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn's Post Inspector), because platforms cache previews.
How the preview is built
- The page is fetched from BrandNXT's server with a “BrandNXT-Tools” user agent, following up to 10 redirects, and the first 2 MB of HTML is read. JavaScript isn't run, and most platforms' link crawlers don't run it either.
- Every meta tag whose property or name starts with og: or twitter: is collected (the first one of each wins). The title shown is og:title, then twitter:title, then the page <title>; the description follows the same order with the meta description last.
- The image is the first of og:image:secure_url, og:image, og:image:url, twitter:image and twitter:image:src, resolved to a full URL. It's downloaded (up to 3 MB) to read its dimensions from the file header (PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP). Images up to 1.5 MB in those formats are shown in the preview; larger ones are described instead.
- Missing tags are any of og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type and twitter:card that aren't set. Tips flag images smaller than 600 × 315 px, a ratio far from about 1.91:1, images over 1 MB, http:// image URLs and very long titles.
- The two cards are generic approximations, not copies of any platform's design. Real previews vary by platform and device.
- Starter tags use the title and description shown, the final URL, the page's og:type (or “website”), the image found (or a clearly marked placeholder) and twitter:card “summary_large_image”. Values are HTML-escaped.
- Only public http(s) sites on ports 80 and 443 are fetched; private and internal addresses are refused. Nothing is stored.
