Meta Tag Generator

Write your page title, meta description, canonical, robots, Open Graph and X (Twitter) card tags in one place, then copy ready-to-paste HTML. Live pixel-width guidance shows whether Google is likely to shorten your title or description.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page title and meta description, and watch the character count and pixel-width meter under each.
  2. Add the canonical URL as a full https:// address, plus your site name.
  3. Choose the robots settings: index or noindex, follow or nofollow.
  4. Optionally add a social share image URL and pick the X card type.
  5. Copy the HTML or download it as an .html snippet, and paste it inside your page's <head>.

How the guidance and tags are produced

  • Widths are measured in your browser with the canvas measureText API in Arial: 20px for titles and 14px for descriptions, to approximate how Google displays results.
  • Titles wider than about 600px may be truncated on desktop. Descriptions up to about 680px usually fit on mobile, and up to about 920px on desktop. These are approximations, not published Google limits.
  • “Too short” (under 30 characters for a title, under 70 for a description) is an editorial rule of thumb, not a Google rule.
  • Every value is HTML-escaped (& < > " '), runs of spaces and line breaks become single spaces, and any tag whose input is empty or an invalid URL is left out.
  • og:url uses the canonical URL, og:type is set to “website”, and the Open Graph and X tags reuse your title, description and image.
