Social Media Image Resizer

Resize or crop an image to the exact size a social platform or ad placement expects. Pick a preset such as an Instagram portrait post or a YouTube thumbnail, or enter your own size, choose how the image should fit, and download a file that's ready to upload. Everything happens in your browser, so the image is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop in a JPG, PNG or WebP image (up to 25 MB and 12,000 pixels on each side), or choose one from your device.
  2. Pick a preset size, or choose Custom size and enter a width and height. Lock the aspect ratio to keep the image's proportions.
  3. Choose how it should fit: crop to fill (and which part to keep in frame), fit inside with a background colour, or stretch.
  4. Pick JPG, PNG or WebP and, for JPG and WebP, a quality level.
  5. Compare the before and after previews, check the output size and file size, and download.

How the resizing works

  • Crop to fill scales the image until it covers the whole frame, then trims what overflows. The focal point decides what stays in frame: centre, top, bottom, left or right.
  • Fit inside scales the image until all of it fits in the frame and fills the space around it with your background colour, or leaves it transparent in PNG and WebP.
  • Stretch scales width and height separately to the exact size, which distorts the image if its shape doesn't match.
  • Big reductions are done in halving steps with high-quality smoothing, which keeps fine detail sharper than shrinking in one jump.
  • Phone photos are turned the right way up using their EXIF orientation before resizing.
  • The file is named <name>-<width>x<height>, so you can tell your versions apart.
