How to use it

  1. Choose the type of markup that matches what the page is about.
  2. Fill in the form. Fields are labelled Required or Recommended, following Google's structured data documentation.
  3. Fix anything in the checklist: invalid URLs, dates, prices and currency codes are left out of the markup until corrected.
  4. Copy the <script type="application/ld+json"> snippet, or download it, and add it to the page's HTML.
  5. Test the published page with Google's Rich Results Test and keep an eye on Search Console's reports.

How the markup is generated and checked

  • Output is JSON-LD using the schema.org vocabulary, the format Google recommends. Empty fields are left out.
  • Required and recommended properties follow Google Search Central's documentation for each feature, kept to a conservative list. Google lists no required properties for Organization or Article, so their fields are marked recommended.
  • URLs must be absolute http(s) addresses; dates use ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD, or a date and time with time zone); prices use digits with a dot for decimals; currencies use three-letter ISO 4217 codes; GTINs are checked for length and check digit.
  • Ratings are added only when you switch them on and enter real figures. The tool never fills in sample ratings or reviews.
  • Text is JSON-escaped, and “<” is written as \u003c before “/script”, “script” or “!--”, so your content can't break out of the script tag.
  • Everything runs in your browser. The tool doesn't fetch or check your live page.
